Bears use their claws to fight and defend themselves. They are able to slap with their very strong paws and effectively defend their own lives. Bears are also menacing sounding and looking making a potential predator think twice.

Due to their immense size, strength, and natural weapons in their huge teeth and claws, brown bears have no natural predators. When threatened, a brown bear may respond by rearing up to its full height of 10 feet (3 meters) or more in an attempt to intimidate an opponent, or by sending out a ferocious roar. If pressed into action, a brown bear can deliver a devastating blow powerful enough to snap a bison's spine or use their massive jaws to clamp down with a bite force of nearly 2,800 pounds (1,270 kg).

All animals protect themselves. Do you protect yourself? Actually one of the only animals that a bear has to protect himself against is man. Bears use their claws and their teeth to protect themselves in a fight. In nature they use their sense of smell to know what is happening around them (such as a fire or another bear).
