The existing sizes of violins are 4/4, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/10, 1/16, 1/32, and even 1/64, although these are extremely rare.

A 4/4 size violin is about 14 inches (35 cm)

A 3/4 size violin is about 13 inches (33 cm)

A 1/2 size violin is about 12 inches (30cm)

Occasionally a small adult may use a 7/8 size violin (sometimes called the lady's violin) which is slightly shorter than a full-sized instrument.

Sorry, but a viola is larger than a violin, a cello is the next largest, and a bass is the largest of this family. Don't know anything smaller than violin, except there are smaller violins for use by children, who cannot manage a full size violin.

The octobass was the height of three men and required two to play. Unsurprisingly, it didn't catch on... LOL!

It usually just depends on what size you are from the tip of your middle finger to your shoulder. They make sizes for 3 year olds to 70 year olds!
