13. Register your works with Library of Congress

15. Don't live in New York or LA

16. Commit to 40 gigs in cities other than where you live in the first year

17. Sell CDs at every Gig.

18. Focus on your vocal hooks. Get to the hook within first 30 seconds of your songs

19. If you're doing a band, if your drummer speeds up or slows down, fire them immediately.

20. If you're doing a band, every needs good, dependable, well maintained equipment

It is a long and difficult task also in most cases it's expensive. First you need the proper music gear.I do not recommend you getting the cheapest gear you can buy neither,trust me,you would regret it in the long run.Then you need to do gigs and try to get a recording deal.If you get a recording deal read the contract before you seal the deal.

In order to find a job in music, you certainly need to have some sort of musical back ground. The very first step and quite frankly, the most important step is to head into a local music shop and ask around. They will know best, they will have connections and if you can prove that you have the talent and knowledge, they'll help hook you up. Musicians love musicians and love to see more succeed.
