This is a very broad topic with thousands of websites devoted to discussion of passivity. Perhaps some self analysis is in order because passivity has many negative outcomes. Being seen as a mark is a common one that you have obviously experienced.

There are many negative outcomes that result from chronic passive behavior. Generally, passive people lack honesty. That can cause problems in personal relationships and at work. They don't express their true feelings. They let others make the decisions for a variety of reasons: in order to protect themselves from responsibility, to avoid what they perceive as conflict, to avoid offending others, to make themselves likable, thinking they should place others' needs above their own. They don't really participate.

Passive people avoid making a commitment to any position when it comes to decision making. The trouble is they rob others of authentic feedback and they remain an unknown quantity who can/must be pushed, or dragged, around. There is little joy in living or socializing with a person who is neutral about everything. The other person in any relationship must make all the decisions while pulling you along. All this avoidance can make others feel both pity, irritation and even contempt towards you. Certain other personalities pick you up on their radar and take advantage, knowing you won't complain.

You should do some research at the many websites that discuss the passive personality. Passivity on its own is a negative behavior. Many passive personalities think that any kind of disagreement or speaking up will be viewed as aggression. You could benefit from learning the difference between assertiveness and aggressiveness and then learn how to assert yourself positively when it counts. Once you're viewed as quietbut assertive the users will take you off their radar. Give your friends and family the benefit of your honest opinions and take responsibility for them. Don't worry about offending others- you are entitled.
