== == * Borax, a powder detergent you can find in any grocery store, works well. Sprinkle it in your carpets and floors, leave for the better part of a day and then vacuum. It's messy, but it kills fleas. == == * Call an exterminator for the fleas in the house, get a pet collar for your dog/cat and spray the yard regularly. == == * An exterminator told me that fleas like corners of a room or near the base boards, so either get that Borax in there or call an exterminator. In Canada we have "Program" which is a little capsule that you put on the skin of a dog and cat's skin. Go to the vet and know the weight of your pet and they will give you the proper dose. Then take the capsule and snip the top off and push back the hair in between the shoulder blades of the dog or cat and there is no need to rub it in. You have to do this once a month for as long as the flea season lasts and if you are not sure how long that is you can always check by phoning your vet at no cost. The old saying, "Where there is a cat there are fleas." So, ALL pets must be treated at the same time with Program. I have two dogs and a cat and this is what I use. Works like a charm. Even people that go out on their own grass to mow the lawn or if kids are playing outside can bring the fleas into the house. If you have an extremely bad infestation of flea problems then it's important to get the exterminator up, and this will require you to put house plants outside, any pets (including birds) in a kennel or at a friends house and you must be out of the house. It usually is just for a few hours. When you come home clean all counter tops with a bleach/water solution, and wash your kitchen floors. Often the exterminator will use environmentally safe products to rid you home of fleas. Discuss this with the exterminator. Program kills the fleas and their eggs and once the exterminator is finished even Spiders won't want to inhabit your home. That's great because I hate spiders! LOL == == * I had one cat when I lived in Texas and fleas. I put some Diazinon in my vacuum bag, vacuumed thoroughly and then changed the bag--put the ones with fleas into the garbage with a top. You can buy some flea spray for under beds and other places that has flea Birth Control. You have to notice their gestational cycle, but it tells you how. There were no further problems. == == * Sprinkle regular table salt over carpets and in furniture, leave for three to five days. It may be messy and uncomfortable for a few days but it works like a charm and it's cheap (large box of salt is under fifty cents). It'll vacuum right up, no bad smells or harmful pesticides. * Spray Bayer flea spray on the floors and furniture and it should kill them.

Spend the money and go to a vet and get either Frontline or Advantage flea drops. If you can, bug bomb your house with flea specific spray. If you can't use the bombs, spray everything. Carpet powder for fleas helps. Do all cracks. Frequent vacumning helps. The biggest thing is the flea drops. Do it for at least 3 months, it takes that long to go thru the life cycle and be fairly sure of getting them all. Been there, and it will get better. Spray or treat the yard also. If you walk the dog outside of your yard, you will get them again without continued treatments on the dog. $10 a month should cover it. The above poster has some great ideas, but I ended up getting an exterminator several years back and it was environmentally safe. My husband, myself and pets left the house for 3 hours and all plants or any food left out on counters was put away. It worked great! I vacuum every other day to sometimes every day depending on what is tracked into my home. By getting an exterminator in any fleas that you or your pet may bring in off the grass (fleas are everywhere outside) once they are inside your home they don't multiply. Not only did it get rid of the fleas, but also got rid of spiders (which I hate!) Fleas multiply anywhere....not just outside!!
Go to local Walmart and get bug bombs-cans of a premixed insecticide that dispenses in the form of a fog. You need to read the instructions and buy quantity needed as per the instructions and use accordingly. If Walmart doesn't have them try hardware stores - farmers cooperative-feed and seed stores, ect. --May have to fumigate more than once to completely solve the pesky little problem because of new hatchings.

There's no residual with the bombs, it's best to have done professionally. Pet(s) & yard(s) should be done at the same time. Frequent vacuming necessary after treatment to stimulate new fleas to emerge. Discard contents of bag outside in sealed container. Focus on pet resting areas. Fleas can continue to emerge for a couple weeks after a treatment. With the bombs it would take far too many applications & very difficult to get consentration needed for an effective kill. The larvae are deep at the base of your carpet fibers & penetration is key. Determine pest is actually fleas & not misidentification. Set out glueboards for a few days & see if you pick up any. Static, Allergies, etc. sometimes mistakenly attributed to fleas.

Getting fleas in one's home can seem extremely overwhelming. The best way to get rid of them is to wash all the bedding in the home, vacuum thoroughly, and purchase a dehumidifier. The dehumidifier works to reduce the humidity, which will kill off adult fleas.

The animals you can have flea dipped or use a flea shampoo. the home is a bit more tricky, as basically you have to vacuum thoroughly and treat all plush surfaces, carpets & furniture in any infested area. Linen on beds in those rooms should be laundered. You have to get all the carpet you can. If the furniture couches etc are not fabric, you can just treat under cushions, For furniture use an aerosol-Precor 2000. It comes out very fine in a huge fan. For the carpets, Use any adulticide concentrate labeled for fleas with 1 ounce gentrol growth regulator) per gallon if you can get it. You could use aerosols exclusively but that will be more expensive and you need to really penetrate the carpet without getting it so wet it will mildew. Light fan setting on a common sprayer should do. It will probably take half a day for all to dry out and you should wear protection. bear in mind even on a successful flea treat pupae are unharmed and adults will still emerge for up to 2 weeks following. vacuuming frequently helps stimulate them to emerge. The source is most likely your yard but you can attack that with a hose end sprayer and just about any bug killer mixed properly so it doesn't burn the foliage.

You will likely have to spray your house or fumigate in order to kill all of the fleas. Be sure to wash any cloth or bedding at the same time. Also make sure you have removed all of the fleas from the dog so it does not bring more fleas back into your house.

First spray your yard twice a week and then once a week there after with Clorox Bleach

Put the bleach in an Ortho Dial Sprayer and hook it up to your garden hose. Turn the knob to 8 and spray your yard, shrubs etc. Wet the area down pretty good. Let it dry. So keep kids and pets off the yard.

then use lots of foggers in your house, basement, crawl space, etc, and attic. Too many people don't use enough foggers. Make sure the air and heat are off. When you come back into the house, turn the fan on to the furnace and then after a time remove the filter and seal it up in a garbage bag and put it in the trash. this should work. Worked for me for over 10 years at a commercial boarding kennel. Also helps to destroy Parvo. I heard about this from a Dalmatian breeder who swore by it.

Of course while you are fogging the house, the dog and cat, etc should be at a groomers being given a good bath, dip or flea treatment and a good blow our of their coats.

Does fleas go to house to house by people?

Yes but they also travel by pets. The pet can then jump onto a human and after that, whatever the human who has the fleas touches, the fleas will be on too. Fleas mate very quickly so you need to isolate anything or anyone who has the fleas and then get rid of them.

Is it possible to bring fleas home after going to a house that is believed to have fleas?

It is definitely possible to spread fleas around. Fleas go everywhere, so if you go somewhere with fleas, chances are that they are on you, and will soon be in your house, on your pets, or wherever you go. Until you take the right procedures to get rid of them. Fleas spread, and multiply like crazy.

My long haired Himalayan cat has fleas how can I rid her and my house of fleas any products or methods?

Remove all animals from the home and using a flea bug bomb will get rid of them in the house or a local exterminator. A vet should be consulted on what products will be best for flea removal for the cat.
