Best Answer

It depends on the nature of the disablement. Sadly, most of the abuse is not by parents but by peers- Kids have it seems l0l derisive nicknames for eyeglass wearers, On the other hand I cannot recall any Teachers poking fun of this condition. ( I have worn specs over 45 years) The same is true of other handicaps. Typically shallow, bigots will ( hit) visible targets such as spectacles-for some odd reason hearing-impaired youth are not targeted- there is no slang expression like ( Four eyes , or Eight-Ball) for a hearing-impaired person- either child or adult. Folks with speech impediments are bucking for ( Donald Duck) it is really tragic that kids do most of the abusing here. Maybe deafness is rare among kids- but then, it doesn"t photograph. so it goes.
