Dear Dee, Your question is not clear. Are you asking someone to tell you what medals your relative earned?
or
You have the medals, but don't know what they are for.
If you are asking the second questions I can help you if you describe the ribbon or medal. You can contact me at pzv@earthlink.net BUT I have no answer to the first question.
Ok, for this one there are several factors. First, it matters if he is alive or not because only him or his next of kin (if deceaced) can request his official records. Also it matters when he served. Now a servicemember gets a form called a "DD 214" that has a summary of what they had at the time and where they served overseas. They didn't have that before the Korean War though so more digging is involved if that is the case.
Here is a site that will help no matter when though, it is the national archives. You can request it right from them and all you have to do is fill out a form and wait an exceedingly long amount of time for them to send you the records. http://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/get-service-records.HTML
Obtain a copy of his service record from the National Archives. It will contain all of the items that he was awarded.
A faster way to get info is to look at his Official Discharge from the military. There will be listed in a section titled "Awards and Decorations" all of his awards. If you don't have the discharge, he may have joined a Legion post or VFW post, and they would probably have a copy. If he bought a house and used the GI Bill, the VA would have a copy. Many municipalities granted tax exemptions to veterans, and they would have a copy. Funeral Directors may have a copy also.
His grandfather has never been named (as far as I can find) & is apparently still alive, but never seen.
Contact the Longshoreman's local union to see if they have a record of it in their files.

DNB- Died in Line of Duty, non-battle It took me a while to find out as well. This doesn't mean that they died necessarily doing routine things. My grandfather died, from wounds he received during battle, several weeks later. He is listed as DNB. Just a point of clarification.
Don't know but look up his grandfather Genghis Khan so look him up and then you can find out about their family history.
Contact the VA for a copy of your father's DD Form 214. It will list all awards your father earned.
Contact veterans affairs. It would help if you have his SSN.
