also lay down lye powder on the bottom of the stall after completely cleaning out all of the shavings/straw etc. about once every two weeks. Make sure no animals/people/horses are around because the powder and its dust are caustic and harmful. The powder mixes with the urine and neutralizes it, helping to keep the odor down. The lye also helps to kill bacteria in the stall
In addition to the above answer, you can buy stall deodorizers designed specifically for use around horses that are not harmful to them. They tend to be more expensive, but it is worth the money to know the horse is safe in it's own stall.
