In the United States you can take the proper legal steps to lawfully change your name but, other than that, it is unlawful to have more than your own identity, or hold yourself out to be someone other than who you really are.

EXCEPTION: By government action and authority, individuals who enter certain government protection programs (witness protection - espionage - etc) may be lawfully given new identities in order to protect them and their families from retaliation. Therefore if you fit into that category your contact person will assist you.
