It can be latent, meaning your born with this mental illness. Also herditry if a family memeber has depression, or another mentall illness usually you are more likely to have it especially if that family member is a parent. It can be caused by stress, or traumatic events or a bevearment. People who already are depressed for apparent no reason are more likely to become more severley depressed when something bad happens in there life.
Depression can also be caused by suppressed negative emotions caused by some problems in your life. Before you get a treatment, see if you can improve your life by yourself through identifying and removing those causes.
Depression is simply an chemical imbalance and is not something that you can catch like a cold!!! So you may get it from your parents or just have it yourself. It's not bad it's just the serotonin, which makes you happy, is off, so you get "highs" and "lows" in the extreme!! Which is very bad for you and is like taking drugs but without taking drugs yourself, hopefully! Talk to your doctor about taking medicine to prevent it so you won't go to jumping off the walls happy to lying on the floor sobbing after taking an amazing once-in-a-lifetime cruise, or something. However again you can NOT catch it for it's not contagious!
Research has found that moderate drinkers are at lower risk of suffering depression than are alcohol abstainers.
The fact that moderate drinking reduces the risk of depression is consistent with the research evidence that drinking alcohol in moderation is associated with better health than is either abstaining or abusing Alcoholic Beverages.
Of course, the abuse of alcohol is associated with depression and other undesirable outcomes.
It is wise to consult a physician for concerns about depression.
Depression-screening.org has a good depression screener. Mayoclinc.com has a good depression self-assessment. Where can you find and online depression test? You can find online depression test all over the internet. I would suggest using www.everydayhealth.com/depression.
