When I was younger I was extremely shy. If the opposite sex said something to me I would turn beet red and if a boss asked me to do something I would get nervous and rattled. I knew that I had to do something so I took a course on Public Speaking. The first two weeks I thought I'd die from embarrassment, but after that I realized the other people were there for the same thing and I not only made some good friends, but we had some good laughs. Ever since I took the course nothing has bothered me and I am self confident. I have spoken in front of hundreds of people, not to mention Board Meetings and some work has been consulting with companies in the past. I'm very extroverted now. Some young people take up theater in high school or college. Many of the actors of today have done so because they were shy and introverted. Remember, you don't have to be loud or talk all the time to be extroverted. Being a good listener and offering good healthy opinions if asked is being extroverted. Listen, mull it over in your mind (this goes for business too) and then decide and make your opinion something to consider.

Visualizing is an easy way to build self confidence. Seeing yourself in your mind as already confident cause you to feel great about yourself. It end fear instantly and allow you to walk around town self assured and positive. Since we all act in accordance with our self concept, all you need to do is change you self concept from shy to confident.

Practice a lot whatever you want to be confident in doing.

But practice doesn't make perfect... PERFECT practice makes perfect. In other words, make sure that you know what you are doing and you are focused in your goals. Don't practice things the wrong way. Make sure you are straightforward and positive in the direction you are going. Don't care about what others think of you, they're just other people. You know yourself better than everyone else.

The best way to improve your confidence is to find things you are good at doing and work to improve them. Try lots of different things like hobbies, sports, arts and school. Everybody is good at something, so the more you try, the more things you'll find you can do.

Another way is to take a class in something like public speaking or comedy where you have to learn how to be brave and face your fears.
