• Teens are a good start by getting involved with the elderly. The elderly are wise in most cases; have fantastic stories to tell and the elderly will also realize that most teens are not to be feared (often the elderly worry about being mugged and it happens so many elderly people feel very vulnerable if they are around a group of teens). Teens can read to the elderly in nursing homes; take them for walks down the hall or out in the gardens during the spring and summer because there are many of the elderly where families may live a long distance away or their children just don't seem to bother to visit them. Older adults can start group programs for picking up and bringing back the elderly from doctor's appointments; shopping, etc. British Columbia Canada has 'Driving Miss Daisy' and other groups that do this. Programs can also be set up by adults to find good doctors; dentists or assisting the elderly on those appointments if they do not have children to do so. Writing articles in a magazine or even a small article in a local newspaper can be handy at educating people regarding the elderly. Some elderly people are actually young minded even if their bodies appear to say otherwise so this misconception of all elderly persons are incapable needs to be broken.
