More common than most folks realize.
Based on my experience over the last 2 decades, I would say that most pools have a leak of some type, with probably 3 out of 5 having a substantial leak!
This would be for pools in general and not specifically for gunite pools. Gunite shells don't leak unless cracked, but there are plenty of other places where a pool can leak.
36 years of remodeling and building gunite pools makes me disagree with the above answer. Very few pools have leaks with the most common place being in the skimmer throat. Also, after 5 years here in Nevada I have found more leaks in the light conduit than in 31 years in California. They use PVC conduit in Nev. and brass/copper conduit in Cal. Have a professional leak detection company detect the leak with dye and pressure testing to determine if the leak is in the vessel itself or in the Plumbing.
Pebble sheen is the finish on the surface of a pool gunite is the cement that a pool is constructed from in other words you can finish a gunite pool with pebble sheen.
Swimming pool types include above-ground pools, fiberglass pools, vinyl-lined, gunite and poured-concrete pools. Learn the pros and cons of each type of pool.
The gunite pool is basically what most people refer to as the in-ground concrete pool. Because this pool will shape to the contours of your yard, it is a great choice for those who want something more unique than the typical vinyl lined pools. The tile on the gunite pool can be cleaned with household tile cleaner when you are doing your deep cleaning of your pool. This requires that the pool be drained and rinsed thoroughly.
I have heard that Henderson Pools LLC and Ewing Aquatech Pools and Spas are two wonderful places to find a pool. Both businesses carry gunite pools, Ewing builds custon designed ones to fit your style.
A fiberglass pool requires less maintenance, less repairs structurally in the future, is quick to install, and is good for smaller pools. Gunite pools are better for a pool deeper than 8 feet, custom shapes, and is a bit harder on the feet than a fiberglass pool.
Most pools are price by the perimeter foot and not by the shape.
The in-ground pools are prefabricated. The bodies are made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic. This is an alternative to vinyl-lined, gunite and poured concrete pools.
I have looked and have not found any so far
They use a special method of building the pool. They are very high quality and completely done with the highest of care to last a lifetime.
Gunite
Hum, not sure if you can actually plaster a fiberglass pool. The glass would have to be removed first. You will have to consult a pool builder, a company that installs fiberglass shells or a company that installs fiberglass in plastered pools - thus converting a gunite/plaster pool into a gunite/fiberglass pool. The later uses the old pool shell as the sub-grade or foundation so to speak. k
