How did Britain's splendid isolation and desire for a peaceful Europe figure into her colonial expansions overseas? If Britain was concentrating all of its' not inconsiderable resources into an aliance, or agreement, closer to home, then surely it stands to common reasoning that its' forces abroad would be weakened, and falter. Also, if Britains' desire for a peaceful Europe had been granted, then managing 'business' overseas would have been easier and more efficient, as the furthest reach of friendly soil would be a larger area coverage with which to deal. Being able to move more freely over foreign turf would have meant that they could reach further around the globe, and become engaged in peace-making conferences with more of the peoples around the globe. If dealing with nations uwilling to 'come quietly' then perhaps the large, possibly unequalled sale of Britains' allies would have helped to overwhelm them into submission. However, not everything was as peachy as it seems. The concentration on home forces meant neglecting global colonies. Oops! Gotta run! I'm supposed to be analysing that question myself right now! I'll try and find time to add on information later if I get the opportunity, but I hope this brief start helps you on your way! Bonne Chance, Rosalie! xx
