Also, if Columbus had not been funded by the Spanish king and queen, the New World would have been very different. For example, Spanish is the main language of Mexico and widely spoken in the US. Columbus didn't influence the world much in his time. He was considered a failure and died fighting the crown for his share of anything he found. He expected to find a lot of gold to bring back to Spain to off set the cost of his ships and he didn't succeed in his task in any of his 4 voyages. To the Native Americans he influenced their life a great deal. He brought STD's, the flu, and other diseases to the New World. He started a flood of other explorers who considered Native Americans good for slavery and not much else. Eventually, they would loose their lands, life styles, and cultures to the flood of Europeans that would invade their lands. Columbus was just the start of all of it.
