As a result, the religion of Islam is also practiced in Ethiopia. Centuries later, Christian missionaries also arrived.
The dominant culture in Ethiopia I believe is the Amharic culture although the Oromo people outnumber them. The main religion is Ethiopian Christianity, followed by Sunni Islam.
Islam entered into East Africa at the very beginning of the Islamic period, around 700 AD. Muslim traders introduced Islam to the East African coast, and the growth of commerce caused the religion to spread.
