Our second President John Adams died at home in Braintree, Mass, of old age, at 91 years.
Officially John Adams death is listed as "debility" brought on by heart failure caused by arteriosclerosis. within hours of his dear friend Thomas Jefferson. His final toast to the "4th" was "Independence Forever", (which he gave late that afternoon); he was also reported to have said just before his death, "Thomas Jefferson survives," (but unknown to him was the fact that Jefferson had passed away shortly before).
Former president John Adams lived till the age of 90, a remarkable achievement at a time when people generally did not live that long. In failing health but still mentally alert till almost the very end, he was gratified to know that he lived long enough to see his son John Quincy Adams become president. John Adams died of complications from old age, at the Adams Mansion in Quincy MA. (Today, the Adams Mansion, where he lived with his wife Abigail for many years, is still standing and is a popular tourist attraction.)
