One of the biggest ways he helped African Americans was by breaking the racial barrier in music. His video "Thriller" was the first video by an African-American to ever air on MTV. Also, before Michael Jackson came out, all African-American artist were classified as "R&B" and all caucasians were classified as pop and rock.
Michael Jackson was (and still is) one of the most famous black musicians in history, and believed very strongly in racial equality. He was the first black artist to have a music video on MTV- Billie Jean. He was also one of the very first black artists to win 8 grammies and 1 academy award. Though widely criticised for bleaching his skin white, he did in fact have vitiligo, a disease causing you to lose pigment in your skin, making it go white. This has been confirmed by his autopsy report.
Most successful African American (arguably the most successful entertainer) in the music industry.
