Ponce de Leon sailed northwest from Puerto Rico, where he had again been displaced as governor by Juan Ceron. He sailed east of the Bahamas and reached the Atlantic coast of Florida on April 2, 1513, six days after Easter Sunday. The exact location might have been anywhere between Jacksonville and Titusville, perhaps near St. Augustine or Daytona Beach.
