The main reason was that he wanted to take power from the catholic church due to the pope denying him a divorce from Catherine of Aragon Also the looting of churches and monasteries helped bolster the royal coffers Interestingly if you look at protestant nations as opposed to Catholic nations the former have been the more prosperous since the reformation so it was probably the right decision but made for far more personal reasons

The king wanted a divorce. The mother church in Rome would not grant it. The king did not agree with this, broke away to begin what became the Church of England, a state Church, as was the Roman Church

Anglican Catholic Answer!

Protestantism only became established after a brutal War of religion in 1646 and it lasted till 1660 when the Anglican Church was brought back by demand!

The Church in England was the distillation of some 1500 hundred years of catholicity in England! it was never anything but Catholic. Further, Rome was not the mother church! Where Christianity came from was always thought to be from the East! In that Dorotheus , Archbishop of Tyre in 303 Ad, wrote that S. Simon Zelotes, the Brother of Christ was responsible for bringing the faith in to this country. Many people thought it was brought by the agency of S. Joseph of Arimathea? Queen Elizabeth laughed at her apostate bishops when they put forward the idea of Rome's authority pointing out they wouldn't have said that to her father and that S.Joseph was thought the traditional source.

Anywhere but Rome! as for the Church in England breaking away from Rome?

They simply pointed out that one bishop had no authority in another bishop's see!

Rome was going against the canons of three Ecumenical Councils, the Ancient Church in its fullness by doing so.

Because it's king didn't want to be "under" the pope and do what he said. It was mainly because of politics, not of religon. Because the King of England wanted to divorce and kill his wives. Both actions the Catholic Church told him he should not do.

England became a Protestant country during the Reformation because?

Henry VIII wanted a divorce, but divorce was banned by the Catholic Church therefore Henry decided to appoint himself head of the Church of England so he could get a divorce. However, Henry did not become a Protestant and he continued to practice Catholicism until his death. The Reformation in England did not cause the country to become Protestant. It allowed dissenting ideas freer access to the population. The teachings of men like John Calvin became more common in England because the Church of England was not so directly linked to Rome.

How did Henry viii make England protestant?

Anglican Catholic Answer!Henry didn't of course turn England protestant or turn protestant himself. What Henry did, for whatever reason, was to query the right of the papacy to interfere in another bishop's see! Pointing out that whoever did so contravened the Canons of Nicea and broke the basic rules of the Church! To adhere to the rules of the Ecumenical Councils is not to become protestant, to abandon the teaching of the Church is to become a heretic! Henry abandoned no rules or teaching!
