Toulouse comes from the Latin name Tolosa which in turn comes from the name of the Celtic peoples who lived there; the Romans called them the Tolsatii.

That name, in turn, probably comes from the Celtic Dol-sætas meaning "Valley Dwellers" ("dol" being the Celtic word for valley).
