Establishing model Communities
Utopian socialists hoped to reform society by creating small, self-sufficient communities based on principles of equality and cooperation. They believed that by demonstrating the benefits of their communal lifestyle, they could inspire broader societal change towards a more just and harmonious society.

They were intentional communities created to perfect American society and had become institutionalized in American thought by the 1840s. Various groups, struggling under the pressures of urbanization and industrialization, challenged the traditional norms and social conservatism of American society
