Explain General Washington's strategy at the Battle of Trenton?

In the dead of night, on December 25 1776, George Washington led 2400 American soldiers across the Delaware River. the troops were short on supplies but were ready to fight. On the morning of December 26, the troops attacked. Being the day after Christmas, the British and Hessians were drunk and half asleep. The battle lasted only an hour and finally, 900 Hessians surrendered to Washington.

He was waiting for the french to arrive, but when he found out the french were going in the wrong direction, he just decided to go the other way and capture Yorktown ( my point is, the original plan was not to seige Yorktown, but he decided to let it be.)

∙ 13y agoSense the Continental Army was losing their battles, George Washington decided to attack a British camp in Trenton to make the soldiers happier. Washington knew they would win the fight because Washington knew the Regulars would still be drowsy and sleepy at dawn. The British were not ready so early. This was the first battle the continental army won.

∙ 13y agoThe Battle of Trenton was on Christmas Night so Washington (cleverly) thought that the Hessians would not be armed. It was bone chilling cold, but it was worth it as that was a big battle in history and it was important in the revolution. The American soldiers didn't exactly like the plan because a lot of them had no shoes and were walking ankle high in snow on Christmas Night. To sum it all up he basically crashed a Christmas party and attacked.

Could the Americans have won the American Revolution without the French?
George Washington, Ben Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson probably would have been hanged or imprisoned. There might have been some concessions, but America would have likely stayed a British colony for another 50 or 100 years. It is doubtful that America would have permanently remained a colony, as evidenced by Canada and India. Our 'new' government when independent would probably have been more of a European democracy, with a parliament and "winner doesn't take all" system. Lastly, the Louisiana territory might have become its own country, because it is doubtful Napoleon would have sold that land to the British. As happened in the Caribbean, France might not have been able to hold onto Louisiana, and lost it to England or Spain anyway.
