He could claim to be leader of it, having written anti-slavery Propaganda since he was twenty years old.

He was a founder-member of the American Anti-Slavery Society, and his newspaper, The Liberator was the principal organ of Abolitionism. He was proud to be able to close down the magazine after the slaves were freed.

Unlike many Abolitionists, who favoured gradual emancipation for slaves, Lloyd Garrison agitated for instant freedom and equality.

He was also a supporter of woman's suffrage and the temperance movement.

William Lloyd Garrison fought against slavery by creating an antislavery newspaper. Also he quoted "I do not wish to speak, or write with moderation... I am earnest. I will not equivocate, I will not excuse, I will not retreat a single inch and I WILL BE HEARD."
