mostly between the town where he was born, Stratford upon Avon, Warwickshire and London. He was born in Stratford and raised his family there. Even as he became an acting and playwriting phenomenon, his wife Anne Hathaway and their children remained in Stratford.

Well, he only moved twice: once from Stratford to London and once from London back to Stratford. He spent almost all of his time in one or the other, or possibly travelling between. The only exception is when his theatrical company had to go on tour in 1596 because the London theatres were closed for plague.

We have no indication that he ever left England in his life.

There is no specific, direct evidence that Shakespeare traveled anywhere except London and Stratford. One assumes he traveled to other towns and cities when his companies were on tour, but there is little evidence of where and when. He may have gone to Lancaster and Lincolnshire in his early days, but there is no evidence that he was ever a world traveler. What he did in the lost years may forever remain unknown.

Travel in the sixteenth century was limited to walking, riding a horse or a horse-drawn carriage or going by ship. We can be sure that Shakespeare did plenty of walking in his time. He might have walked to London at the age of 21; he probably hired a carriage to return to Stratford. We don't know if he went on any sea voyages, but he might have done.

Yes, William Shakespeare did travel. Where, you may ask? Well, to London so he could look for work. He left home when he was only 18.

Shakespeare's company did travel in the countryside when the city theatres were closed due to plague. This happened in 1596, when the company went on tour of Kent.

No. It is believed that he spent his entire life in England. Of course there are about seven years in his life which are unaccounted for . . .
