Polish people started to emigrate to the United States in large numbers in the 19th. century. Many Polish Jews were prompted to move to the USA in search of freedom from persecution by Czarist Russians and Catholic Poles. Many non-jewish Poles emigrated in search of freedom from Czarist political oppression. Many others emigrated simply to find economic opportunity and a "better" life.
