Imperialism allowed Great Britain to control several colonies around the world which greatly improved their economy because they were able to take resources from their colonies, make products out of them, then sell them back to the colonies for an excellent profit. Hope this helped! This is the first time I've ever given an answer on this website:)

the colonists exploited colonies economically. the local industries of the colonized countries were practically destroyed eg, the influx of cheap machined goods destroyed the indigenous textile industry of India's. the colonies were treated-as mere suppliers of raw materials .

The British empire totally reformed past judicial systems. They fought against thugees (Indian gangs) and nearly wiped out the practice of infanticide in China.

However they also caused lots of unrest and made many mistakes. For example, they enslaved many people in Africa, largely those living on the Western side of the area. Saying this, they did also enslave people in Madagascar, despite the geographical difficulties.

The British Empire was a mixed blessing.

The British empire has undoubtedly had the most significant impact on the modern world of any country/ confederacy on the planet. Its various impacts are too numerous to list fully in this article but the main ones are: it was one of the first nations to industrialise, it was the largest empire ever to exist, it was the nation that designed the current economic model used by all developed nations on the globe. It was the major naval player in WW1 and WW2 and was key to both conflicts (see battle of Britten etc). It brought modern civilization to many parts of the globe (although this may be viewed as a negative impact by some, it is undoubtedly a major impact). There are many other things that the British empire had a major impact on, however, they are to numerous to mention and discuss in the depth that they deserve so I will leave you with that.

What are the negative effects of the British Empire?

It is important to remember that the British Empire gained most of its territories in the 1800's, a time when racism was in almost every civilized nation and culture. It is also important to remember that as time went on, racism faded and life in the Empire got much better. It is also important to know that many good things came from the Empire, as well. Negative effects: Slavery (the natives had enslaved eachother before the British arrived, and slavery was abolished in the early 1800's.)
