No, Australia was dependant on Britain during our early years (1901 to 1920s) for both trade and guidance. They were in every way our Mother Country, sending over immigrants and funds via Men, Money Markets, and expecting our support when war broke out. From the 1920s onwards Australia wanted more economic dependance from Britain and overseas imports etc. After the bombing of Pearl Harbour and then the loss of our 'crumple zone' Singapore, we turned to the US for protection...
