I was taught in Sunday school some 40+ years ago that Leviticus meant "book of Levites". Books of Levities meant the laws of Levites of laws of preists(and preists helpers I would assume). Am not sure if this is correct but, like I stated it was what I was taught

The English word of Leviticus is derived from the Greek version of the book and means "Matters pertaining to the Levites". In Hebrew, Leviticus was named Vayikra, which means "And He Called." The Hebrew title is taken from the first word of the book. This was a customary way of giving names to ancient works.

Levi was the son of Jacob by Leah(Gen.29:34) and in Numbers 3-4 the Levites were chosen as priests and were allotted cities but not any land.

Scholars ascribe the book to Moses, written around 1445 BCE. Its key words and themes are: Holiness, Sacrifice and Offering

What two books of the bible are named after priests?

Answer: Leviticus and I & II Samuel. Explained: Levi was the first priest. The tribe of Levites, which were named after him, were the only tribe from which Hebrew priests were to be chosen. Leviticus literally means "The book of the Levites" and contains all the laws concerning the priests and their duties. So technically Leviticus is named after Levi, the first priest. The only other books on the Bible named after a priest is I & II Samuel.

What was the first book in the bible name after a man?

It depends on how you define "first" and how you define "named after a man".The book of Job, named after the (male) central character, was probably one of the earliest books of the Bible to be written. In the order in which they appear in the modern Bible, the answer would be "Leviticus" (named ... sort of ... after Levi) or Joshua (named, obviously, after Joshua).Since they were originally written in Hebrew, the first book to feature a man's name in the title is Joshua (Hebrew Sefer Y'hoshua). The Hebrew name for Leviticus translates to "and he called", where "he" refers to JHVH; it didn't become "Leviticus" until translated into Greek.
