In 1981 President Ronald Reagan nominated Sandra Day O'Connor to fill a vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court. O'Connor was approved by the Senate by a vote of 99-0 on September 21, 1981. In his second term, Reagan elevated William Rehnquist to succeed Warren Burger as Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. After elevating Rehnquist to Chief Justice, Reagan nominated Antonin Scalia to fill the vacant seat on the Supreme Court. Scalia was approved by the Senate by a vote of 98-0 on September 17, 1986.

How does the executive branch check judicial?

A couple of ideas to start with: The justices of the supreme court start out being nominated by the president. The nominees have to be cleared by the senate, but nobody gets appointed without first being nominated by the president. So the president has some considerable influence over the supreme court's makeup and philosophy, potentially, for years after his term as president ends. It depends of course on how many justices die or retire. Presidents also get to make sweeping appointments to the Federal Court system when they first take office.

Why are informal methods used to change constitution more than formal methods?

Informal methods do not really change the Constitution per se, they just change the way it is viewed. An informal method refers to a change in makeup in the Supreme Court, which can alter how laws are interpreted. The only real way to change the Constitution is formally.

Is someone being controlling when they want you to change your hair makeup etc?

If it is your boyfriend or husband and the demand you change your hair and makeup to suit them then yes, that is controlling. If a friend tells you in a nice way to change your makeup (you may wear too much makeup) or change your hair style they may be trying to help you look the best you can. It's all in the way the person says it.
