Several dozen types of weapons were used by both sides in WW II. The British and Germans each used their same basic rifle in both WW I and WW II.The US used the 1903 Springfield in WW I, and at the start of WW II. The Browning Automatic Rifle(BAR)was introduced at the end of WW I, and saw extensive service with the US Army til the late 1950's. Same with heavy machine guns, flamethrowers, and tanks.

World War One was a theatre of war which involved new technology. It was the first time modern rifled weapons, machine guns, submarines, Dreadnought class battleships, aircraft carriers, tanks and aircraft were used on any major scale in warfare. However, this technology was in its infancy in the first war.

Take the tank for example. It was so named because the British wanted to keep it a secret. So that the enemy would not get word of it they disguised it as water tanks on train inventories, hence the name. The tank in world war one was very slow, lightly armoured and low powered in terms of weapons. Most tanks had a small gun or were equipped with machine guns only. They often broke down or became stuck. When they did work though they were devastating against an enemy which were not prepared for them. Planes similarly were new to war between 1914-1918. They could only travel at 70 mph and the first fights between enemy planes were between two pilots firing pistols and rifles at each other out of the cockpits.

In the Second World War technology had been developed significantly. The tank was more reliable, heavily armoured and had powerful guns and flame throwers. Planes had developed into specific roles such as fighter, dive-bomber, medium and heavy bomber and reconnaisance.

To summarise, the first world war was the trial period of modern weaponry, whereas the second world war saw modern weaponry came of age and become truly devastating. The atom bomb is one clear example. The development of technology, and of course the tactics to make them effective e.g. blitzkrieg, is why less than 10 million died in the first war whereas over 60 million died in the second. Technology is good until you get killed by it.

Two main new technologies during ww1 are tanks and subs. Tanks and subs were very new technology for WW1. Tanks shot enemy bases, and are still used today. Subs are also still used today, shoot boats from under the water and can explode the boats. They are also used for under water voyages.

Technology did not really change so much during World War 1, but this was the first war that made extensive use of all the technologies previously developed between the 1850s and the early 20th century in a manner that had significant effects on the war both tactically and strategically.
