Did the Allies in fact "help ignite World War 2 in Europe" as the question assumes? Britain had given an assurance to Poland in March 1939 that if it was attacked Britain would come to its aid. France had an older alliance with Poland. Moreover, the British government did what it could in August 1939 to make it clear to Germany that this wasn't bluff.
