∙ 13y agoIt changed it by being the first general issue semi-automatic rifle that outclassed all other countries' bolt action rifles, it ussured in the era of fast, highly accurate semi automaic rifles, and immediately made the bolt action rifle obsolete as a standard arm for militaries.
The M1 Garand wasnt the first semi automatic rifle to exist, some other nations were experimenting with the concept. When John Garand came up with his rifle, it proved to be a breakthrough in rifle design, it was cheap to manufacture, incorperated superior peep sights, more efficient and fast loading and reloading En-Bloc system, was very reliable, has less recoil than bolt action rifles due to the weight, and gas operation system, was made of the finest quality materials avalible, and to top it all off, it was put into the hands of every American soldier and was mass produced, giving the American soldier, the finest battle rifle on the battlefield.
The Garand rifle remains one of the 20th century's greatest breakthroughs in firearm technology, and is widely regarded as America's greatest military rifle.
