He found out she was cheating and was angry. He followed her back from the date when she told her lover that it was over for good and killed her. When 911 happened the next day, he cut off her hand, tossed it at Ground Zero and buried the body in an empty lot.
They also found out that he had taken the settlement money the family gave him, that he said he had donated to a victim's fund, and used to buy and engagement and wedding ring for his new wife (who he had met through a 911 Survivor's group.).
