The rivalry between French and Dutch colonists affected Native Americans because Peter Minuit led a group of Dutch settlers to Manhattan on the mouth of the Hudson River. He bought it from the local Indians and called it New Amsterdam. More colonists settled nearby and together they became New Netherland (todays New York). Soon they enlarged New Netherland by taking over the colony of New Sweden.

Native Americans were never overweight during this period in time. The Iroquois in particular were more fond of corn, beans and squash as their main supporters of life and substance. Eating had nearly nothing to do with how the alliance with the Native Americans affected the French and Indian War.

Instead, the Native Americans fought on both sides of the French and Indian War. In turn helping out both sides.

According to page 147 in Creating America:

----------------------------------------------------------------------

The Native Americans and the Europeans (French) were alliances. They lead to their involvement in each others wars. (For ex.) the Iroquois (The Iroquois were a large tribe of Native Americans) trapped all the beavers in their own lands to get more furs, they made war on their Huron and Algonquin neighbors driving them west. Iroquois Expansion threatened the FUR TRADE. THE ENGLISH WERE ARMED BY THE ENGLISH. When France and England declared war on each other in Europe in 1689, French and English began to FIGHT. With their Native American Allies (Friends), they attacked the each others settlements and forts.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

During 1700's, two more wars between France and England fueled wars in the colonies. Neither side won a clear victory in these wars. A Final war called the French and Indian War(1754-1763) decided which nation would control the northern and eastern parts to North America.

The England and French were fighting for land.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In My words

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

So basically, I guess the Native Americans and The French were great friends. The Fur Trade created economic and military alliances between the Europeans (England) and the Native American trading partners. Hope this helped!!!

The French and Indian War proved disasterous for the Native American communities in the Ohio Valley. The British cut supply routs and charged tribes high taxes. Much of their land was taken away as well.
