What are the causes of the black death and why did it spread so quickly?

Black DeathThe black death was a disease that people caught. The fleas had bad bacteria and they travelled in the fur of rats, when the fleas drank blood from rats and humans they transferred the disease.

The fleas were the cause of the disease!

How did it spread?-In towns and cities people lived very close to each other.

-The filth that littered the streets gave rats the perfect environment to breed and increase their number.

-they believed it was sin to bathe every day so people were not very clean

-Lack of medical knowledge meant that people tried anything to help them escape the disease. The flagellants wanted to show their love of God by whipping themselves hoping that God would forgive them their sins and that they would be spared the Black Death.

---Also the church sent people or religious trips (pilgramiges) , this was bad because people well and unwell were being at the same space at the same time!this would spread it even more!!---

Because everybody passed it on to each other!
due to the fact that at that time there was no real understanding of hygiene. sewage and animal feces would get mixed with drinking water (well, lakes and such). also the interaction between people was not protected.

Black death spread very fast through out the Europe. From 1348 to 1350, it killed almost 60 % of the population of Europe. That means practically every family was disrupted. It is the greatest trauma to the humanity in the whole history of mankind.

At the time most of the metropolis in Europe were over crowded, dirty and the understanding of hygiene was extremely poor in most classes. Rats and therefore the fleas carrying the bubonic plaque would have plenty in these cities and would house themselves in peoples houses, places of work and literally anywhere people were because people meant food that they could scavenge.

Now cats are great at stopping rats and mice but at the time the catholic church made the people believe that they should fear cats as consorts of Satan. Therefore the feline population was radically reduced almost to extinction in England.

You also have to remember that there was more than one outbreack of the 'black death'. And it seemed to occur nearly once in a generation up untill the 18th centuary. When the cat populations rose, the pandemic ebbed, and when the cat population plummeted, the black plague made a resurgence.

There were also many othe factors that contributored.
