Basically, the military technology allowed the soldiers to maintain their distance, and fight without actually watching their opponent die. Of course, with the help of the new technology, the ability to kill larger numbers of people was easily done, and at the same time, it was done effieciently. Also, because of the fact that some of the new inventions were so large, such as the machine gun which required four to six people to operate, it was difficult to keep up with. In general, though, the war really showed the world many new violent inventions, and although a large population was killed, the weapons were somewhat of a benefit. This is a answer that's isn't fully but:

In the ww1 the big invention was the tank. The WW1 is famously because of his huge deads in trench-wars. When the English had invensted the tank the could ride over the trenches of the Germans so the would be killed. There a speculations that if the tank wasn't invented Germany had won the war.

A huge impact. This "modern" technology would lead to the casualties it did because the leaders of the front lines would just send wave after wave of soldiers at the enemy expecting a fast victory. mainly because they did that in the American Civil War. But this strategy would lead to a trench warfare stalemate(Hence, No man's land) And the attackers would get shot down by the newly invented Machine Gun(First used by the Germans)

Most of the fighting in the western front was fought in the northern france and Belgium because of the german's schlieffen plan which involved the invasion of belgium there was no fighting on german soil but on the eastern front there was the battle of Tannenberg which was in east Prussia (now known as the eastern part Poland) but if you are talking about the western from then no.

Why did so many battles on the western front lead to stalemates?

During World War I, the vast majority of the battles on the Western Front led to stalemates for one fundamental reason: offensive technology and tactics were outdated and ineffective, while defensive technology and tactics were advanced and effective. It would not be until World War II that the offense would again overtake the defense on battlefields.
