The Church kept urging people that if they prayed, then the plague would cease. Different hypotheses arose from the reigning pope, but it was always that the Christian god was displeased by something: the actions of the populace, the actions of those who are dying, the corruption of something/someone.

Although all the Christians were praying and living like the papacy instructed them to, the epidemic relentlessly surged forward, and more and more people died.

Christians began to lose faith in the Church because the clergy was making promises that were not being fulfilled.

The reason being is that up until the time of the Black Plague the church supposedly had all the answers to the problems of the people and when no explanation or cure was put forth by the church, many people, even priests, abandoned the church

People believed the since bad things were happing to them that there is no God. Because if there was one he/she would not have allowed this to happen to them. Simiar to the Holocaust this info is true but- The people of Europe witnessed the death of one-third the population over an approximant 200 year period. The Europeans turn to God too find their answers or resentment the Horror around them was unlike no other they could have imagined. During the Black Plague the people of Europe became fixated on religion and the after life. One of the many reasons for this fixation was the growth of the Roman Catholic Church. Their influence powered over the ideas of the local lords this was mainly because of the lack of government over the people. The church was able to raise money through taxes on peasants and lords wanting the "favor" of God through money. This growth allowed churches to be established in villages subsequently allowing priests to help the needed. Priests would often speak of death to peasants and lords by means of praying to those who were dying. Death was all around the men and women of Europe. To find a way to calm them, they turned toward the afterlife and what it would hold. The population of Europe in the first four years of the plague, declined drastically. The plague was thought to be a individual or force that would pursue any person who attempted flee. This made various inhabitants consider that God had an ongoing biblical plague. this is part of a research paper i wrote for honors world history

People lost faith in the church because, people thought that God's power would protect them from the Black Death, but the Black Death didn't stop even though a lot of people prayed to God to save their lives. So, people thought that there was no God that will help them so they thought either there was no got for them or they aren't believing the right god.

The rumor was current that these deaths were due to an international conspiracy of Jewry to poison Christendom. It would seem that this was a way to remove competitors.

The power of the Church was absolute. The Church massacred opposing rebels and drove them from society.
