Scar lured Simba into a gorge then told the hyenas to chase the wildebeests, causing a stampede to occur. He then told Mufasa that Simba was in danger and Mufasa rushed in to save his son. He succeeded in rescuing Simba, but while Mufasa was climbing to safety, Scar grabbed his paws and threw him into the stampede where he was trampled to death.
