During WWII woman could not serve as soldiers in the military, but often served as nurses to wounded men. Most of their contributions, however, occurred in the states. When men left for battle somebody was need to replace them. Since women were the ones that stayed in the country they were now employed in industrial jobs that previously were filled by only men. This made industries capable of surviving while the men were away.
