We travel like everyone else. Cars, trains, planes, taxis, bicycles, and in more remote or rural areas, horses, ox-carts, etc and with our feet.
One thing that seems to amaze most people is that Buddhists are all about be in the world, not separating ourselves from it. Yes some Buddhists go on retreats, pilgrimages or go off to meditate for days, months or years by themselves. But this isn't so as to cut themselves off from everyone forever. It is for them to gain enlightenment faster, so that they can be a benefit for all sentient beings for the remainder of their lives.
