When you say "I don't act totally stuck up", it sure makes me think that you are at least somewhat stuck up. Have you considered why this is?

Consider that being stuck up is often a perceived class distinction. The stuck up person often thinks of him or herself as being better than others. This can be based on "the others'" manner of dress, (not the latest or the hippest), manner of expression, (different language usage from yours) Choice of friends, (IE not you or persons of whom you disapprove) or decisions based on race, color, religion, sexuality etc. These prejudices, if you will, are often the result of parenting and/or peer pressure.

I think that it's important to remember that we all have our skills and talents and that we all make our various contributions to this world.

The guy you snub today because he dresses funny or because he belongs to a farming family and you belong to a city family (Very different priorities here) or for whatever reason, might well be the attorney you need a few years down the road when you've done something stupid. Or that nerdy girl you made fun of might become the physician you need when you have a problem. How would you feel if either of these fictional people shunned you and your problems because they remember how you treated them?

A note on Impact of posture and movement as a non verbal communication?

An erect posture often indicates self confidence, which evokes respect or insecurity in the viewer. Slouching suggests shame (inferiority). Interpreting body movements really depends on the situation, the relationship, and the experience of the viewer. Generally, the impact of face and body language, eye contact, speech dynamics, appearance, and grooming all combine to create an impression in the viewer that may influence their half of the communication. That impression may shift as a conversation progresses.

What is open posture?

Two forms of posture have been identified, 'open' and 'closed', which may reflect an individual's degree of confidence, status or receptivity to another person. Someone seated in a closed position might have his/her arms folded, legs crossed or be positioned at a slight angle from the person with whom they are interacting. In an open posture you might expect to see someone directly facing you with hands apart on the arms of the chair. An open posture can be used to communicate openness or interest in someone and a readiness to listen, whereas the closed posture might imply discomfort or disinterest.
