There is a real hook to this. With the knob at the bottom position you push in a "L" shaped piece of thin coathanger at the top of the handle between the panel and knob and try to snag the top of a clip holding the handle on. Reinstalling is easy. Put the clip on the knob shaft and push it back on. Go check out the clips at your local auto parts store to learn more.

All ASTRO van door handles have a generic problem. They are made out of a substandard material that breaks easily after repeated operation. Most likely, the part that the cable is supposed to attach to on your door handle is broken off. Every ASTRO I've owned, I have ended up replacing door handles on because of this problem
