The 1979 Chevy Silverado glove box latch is held in place with two retaining screws. Remove the retaining screws and the glove box latch will come off.
Place the supplied wheel chocks back to back and sit the jack on top of the chocks. Raise the jack to the center of the spare tire and depress the release button. This will unlock the latch and you can lower the tire with the winch.

If you are looking for the dome light switch that makes the light in the cab come on when the door is open then here it is. All the alarms and light switches are BUILT into the DOOR latch system. You will have to remove the door panel to get to the door latch switch. It is all 1 piece.
i would probably use a screwdriver to nudge where the latch used to be to pop it open
if it is an extended cab- just hit one of the rear windows, close to the latch- the latch will flip open
