You need to detach the taillight(s) to get at the bulbs. Each taillight is held in with three plastic wing nuts, accessible from inside the trunk (you may have to move the carpet aside to see them). After removing the nuts, pull the taillight straight out (be careful, it's easy to break the mounting studs off if you tilt it sideways). Now, remove the bulb socket(s) from the taillight by twisting them counterclockwise and pulling straight out (they may be difficult to remove if they haven't been loosened in a while, rocking back and forth will break them free, but be gentle so you don't crack the taillight housing).
Remove the bulb from the socket by pushing down on it slightly, giving it a quarter-turn counterclockwise, and pulling it straight out. If the bulb won't move easily, WRAP IT WITH A TOWEL OR PUT GLOVES ON before twisting harder - the glass may break and can slice your hand up. You will need to get the metal bulb base out of the socket with needle-nose pliers if this happens, so try to avoid it.
Once the old bulb has been removed, inspect the socket for corrosion damage. Badly rusted contacts inside the socket will not make a connection with the bulb (the socket will need to be replaced). Light corrosion can usually be scraped off with a small screwdriver. Also, remove any dielectric grease that has dried up or become contaminated (you want some grease in there though, as it keeps moisture out of the connection. Put some in there if there isn't any).
Finally, insert the new bulb in the socket, push down, and turn clockwise to lock it in. IMPORTANT: IF THE BULB WON'T TURN, IT'S IN "BACKWARDS". Take it out of the socket, rotate it half a turn, and try again. This happens because the tabs on the side of the bulb are at different heights so that the bulb will only go in one way.
That's it, put everything back together the way it came apart.
