They cannot bite off chunks and chew like we can. Instead - they pin their prey against something solid, grab and twist rapidly in a 'death-roll'. This tears of chunks of flesh which are swallowed whole without chewing.

I live in Florida and i see alot of both .Turtles wait with their neck in and mouth open and spring out and catch small fish and frogs ,and what not.

Alligators do about the same but it is actually a side to side mouth open movement .

Alligators often lie close to the bank, just beneath the water with only their eyes protruding above the water. As animals come up to the water to drink, the alligator lurches very quickly, catching the intended prey off guard, and pulls it into the water.

Once the alligator has its prey, it goes into a "death roll" to drown the prey, which ensures the prey won't escape before the alligator can eat it. During the death roll, the alligator begins to roll, going under water while doing so, rolling under water until the animal is dead by drowning. That is why it's called the "death roll".

Alligators also catch animals whose natural habitat is water, such as beavers. They are able to catch the animals without having to lie in wait at the bank of the water, but still go into the death roll unless the animal is small enough for the alligator to eat without having to rip the flesh from the animal.

They wait under water until an unexpected prey comes 4 a drink
They just SNAP 'em up! Although the alligator is surprising quick on land and water, they normally ambush their prey from a concealed position, capitalizing on the fact that all animals come to the water to drink.

Alligators prey on animals that come to the water's edge. It uses its very sharp teeth to catch and hold its prey down. Alligators can eat small or large animals. If it is a small animal, the alligator can swallow it whole. To eat larger animals, the alligator must break it into smaller pieces. On land, the alligator also can hunt up to 17 feet away from water. When it finds prey on land, it drags it back to the water and finishes its prey off by drowning.

Generally, it stalks its prey in the water, either getting closer to its prey or waiting until the prey get closer to it. Then, it surprises its prey, grabbing them within its jaws to prevent the prey from escaping.

Alligators obtain their food by sneaking up on their prey and tearing it to pieces with their sharp teeth and powerful jaw. Sometimes Alligators swallow their prey whole. (:

By ambush. They usually lie hidden, and wait for something to come by, then spring on it with their jaws, and either swallow it or dismember it under wayer.
