They don't eat but they osmotically take up many aqueous and non-aqueous sources of Hydrogen, Oxygen, Carbon, Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium, Sulfur, Iron, Chloride, and small amounts of trace elements like Boron, Copper, and some others. Plants use light to photosynthesize and use these chemicals to grow.
There are many ways.
Some, like barnacles, filter plankton (small marine organisms) from the water. Barnacles use fan-like arms, clams use siphons, some other creatures use mucus nets.
Other animals live on the sea floor and feed on what ever falls down from above.
Water animals catch and eat their food. Different animals do this in different ways from passively (e.g. sponges sit and wait for food to come to them) to actively (e.g. sharks hunting seals) and everything inbetween.
