What can humans do to protect themselves from a black panther?

Black panthers are a variety of leopard, and like all leopards they have sharp retractable claws and fangs; if attacked, they usually try to run away (and they run very fast!) or to climb up a tree. But if they are cornered, they can fight ferociously and rip their enemy to shreds. Not many animals would want to mess with an enraged Black Panther!

Be aware of your surroundings if you are in an area that may have Panthers. Make it a habit to look up and behind you if you are hiking or walking, panthers attack from up high in trees and from cliffs. They like to attack to the back of their prey and severe the spinal cord. If they see you looking behind yourself, and up, they may feel that you are aware of their presence, and may not attack. Stay in groups as this will deter them from attacking. If you see a Panther, do not run as this will look exactly like prey, and may provoke an attack. Make yourself look as big as possible. If you are wearing a jacket pull it high above you as to look like you are much bigger, and very slowly back away. If attacked fight with anything you can get your hands on, a rock, a stick, or even poke them in the eye with your finger. Attacks are very rare, and animals sense fear so stay calm, and keep you head! Your mind is your best weapon!
