In general, animal species communicate with other species by body language and a general language that we can understand just as much as they can: an example could be if an animal growls it is about to attack. On the other hand if you mean animals of the same species, then that is an entirely new level of sophisticated communicatin depending on the type of animal.

There is no way to tell for sure what a bird says to another bird in their language. However, many songs birds sing are mating calls so they can attempt to reproduce and further their species.

they hoot and other owls hear them and understand them. most of the time, they respond back. Other times they can't hear the other owl or ignore them.
