the males have no spines and they have wings when matured and the females have spines and have miniature wings.
its a bit strange that they are called spiny leaf insects if the male isn't even spiny!
Hope this helps!

No. The only insect that can do that is the Spiny leaf insect. (I'm pretty sure but other stick insects might be able to do so too.)

spiny leaf insect
I do! Only if it's contained.
no they are diffrent species alltogether
Stick insects belong to the family of Phasmatidae, while leaf insects belong to Phylliidae. Both are from the order of Phasmatodea, and are therefore easily confused. For example, Extatosoma Tiaratum is commonly known by the name 'Spiny Leaf Stick Insect'. Having 'Leaf' in the name can confuse it with the family Phylliidae, though it's actually a Phasmid. For this reason, when researching, and writing reports, it's important to be certain of which family an insect belongs to. If you want a simple answer, stick insects tend to look more like sticks, and leaf insects like leaves, though again, they can be easily confused.
stick insects r thinner & have legs.
A tall plastic, glass tank or polistirene foam box, ideally the height being three times the stick insect species you are going to keep. This gives the stick insect ample space to moult as they usually hang vertically while doing this. A water sprayer is also necessary to give the sticks some moisture and to keep the enclosure humid (DO NOT SPRAY THEM BECAUSE IT WILL INFLICT PAIN). Some species need spraying every day, and some only need a light spraying of water every few days. Some, more exotic species need extra heating(E.g. Goliath stick insect and Spiny Leaf Stick Insect), soil at the bottom in order to bury eggs (E.g. Giant Spiny Stick Insect) and even a small, shallow water dish to drink out of.
It varies between the Stick Insects like a Spiny Leaf the females live to 18 months, males 1Yr.
you have to buy them really young and give them a full diet of ROSE leaves for the rest of their lives :) :) :)
My pair lay ed 268 eggs before the female died 3 days ago, but they can lay from 100 to 600 eggs Hope this helps! Regards I'm not telling my name to a machine.
